It’s no secret that I love football. The only thing better than watching football with my husband? Watching it while enjoying 7 Layer Dip. For years, I’ve been making this delicious 7 layer dip shaped like a football anytime we’re watching football and for superbowl parties.
And after being asked for the recipe countless times, I’m finally sharing it here with you! There are a few secrets to my seven layer dip.
Secret one: season your sour cream or crema with taco seasoning. I absolutely LOVE sour cream. It’s my absolute favorite dairy product along with whipped cream cheese. But sour cream with a little kick in it? Well that’s a whole new level of sour cream heaven!
Secret two: layer in the specific order listed. The beans get warmed up in a pot or in a microwave. They go into the dish while still warm, and the cheese goes right on top. Have you ever had a been and cheese burrito? How good is melted cheese with beans? Well there you go!
I add salsa on top of mashed avocado (because I didn’t use guacamole in this dish) but this gives you more of an avocado flavor, which is another favorite flavor of mine.
Secret three: I added juicy chicken to this dish to make it go from an appetizer to a main dish. I mean, do you need anything else besides chicken and seven layer dip? Me thinks not!
I use juicy Perdue Farms chicken. I grill it with just salt and garlic powder, making the prep as simple as possible. Thus lets the chicken flavor stand out in the dish, packed with tons of other flavors.

The perfect football appetizer for your football Sunday, Superbowl party or really, anytime!
Sprinkle chicken with salt and garlic powder.
Grill on your stove or on a bbq until cooked.
Cut chicken into bite size pieces and set aside to cool.
Heat refried beans in a pan on the stove or in the microwave until warm. Spread on the bottom of your dish.
Sprinkle cheese on top of beans while they are still warm so it melts a bit.
In a bowl, add sour cream or crema and taco seasoning to taste. This adds a little kick to your sour cream.
Add sour cream in a layer on top of the cheese.
Mash avocados in a bowl. Spread avocados in a layer on top of the sour cream.
Add salsa on top of avocado to make a sort of guacamole when people dip their chip in the dip.
Add a layer of chicken.
Shred iceberg lettuce with a knife. Liberally apply on top of chicken so the entire dish is covered, so the top will look like the grass in a football field.
Cut olives into thin round slices. Create a football shape on top of the lettuce with olives. You can also create a football field shape as well!
Be the star of the party you go to and enjoy!
